2013 Honda CR-V and Odyssey “Best Cars for Families”

Thursday, April 4th, 2013

Honda CR-VAustin TX

U.S. News & World Report presented its annual “Best Cars for Families” Awards to recognize vehicles “that offer the best combination of quality, space and family-friendly features.” And two of our favorite vehicles were included in this year’s honors.

The 2013 Honda CR-V was praised because of its “impressive safety and reliable ratings make it a smart choice among affordable compact SUVs.” Also, “the Honda CR-V shines with nimble handling, a spacious interior and a standard rearview camera.” Add to that the standard Bluetooth Handsfreelink and you can start to see why the CR-V is in the top of the list for families.

Meanwhile, the comfortable seating, seating configurations and roomy cabin made the 2013 Honda Odyssey stand out among the pack. The publication noted that people raved about its “car-like performance” and excellent safety features.

Both Honda vehicles are Top Safety Picks of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and five-star overall performers in the safety tests from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Consumer Reports’ Top Honda Picks for 2013

Monday, March 18th, 2013

After a year of no love shown to Honda by Consumer Reports, we’re back in business for 2013. In fact, Honda picked up three slots on this year’s Top Picks list; chosen from more than 280 vehicles the publication recently tested.

Earning a Top Pick status from Consumer Reports is no easy task. Each Top Pick has to excel in the road test, earn an average or better predicted-reliability rating, and perform adequately in independent safety tests conducted by government or insurance agencies.

The Consumer Reports’ Top Honda Picks for 2013 are:

Honda gives you the best bang for your buck, says Kiplinger’s Personal Finance

2013 Honda Accord

2013 Honda Accord

Everyone wants to get a good value when they purchase a new vehicle. It makes sense, right? When you are making that large of an investment, you are going to want to get your money’s worth. Luckily, when you buy a new Honda, you are getting that value. This issue came up now because Kiplinger’s Personal Finance recently awarded both the 2013 Honda Accord and 2013 Honda CR-V Best Value Awards.

The breakdown saw the Honda Accord win the ‘Best New Model’ category for cars priced between $30,000 and $40,000. The CR-V was named ‘Best in Class’ in the small crossover category. The awards were given out based on factors like performance, safety, value, price, roominess and driving impressions. So basically, every factor that is important to you as a car buyer is figured in when these awards are decided.

“With the 2013 redesign, Accord keeps its essential ingredients – a solid driver-to-road connection, comfy interior and high resale value – and spices things up with new technology and a more modern exterior,” said Jessica Anderson, associate editor of Kiplinger’s Personal Finance. “Additionally, in an increasingly crowded segment, CR-V is the ideal others aspire to.”

So it’s pretty simple. Buying a new Honda is a sound investment being that the cars hold the best value. The Kiplinger’s award is just one in a long list of awards that prove how valuable Honda vehicles really are. Check them out in person here at Howdy Honda, the friendliest car dealership in Austin TX!

Honda Civic and Honda CR-V keep owners coming back

2012 Honda Civic

Have you ever liked your car so much that when it comes time to replace it the only option you can think of is getting a newer version of the same car?

Well, that’s exactly what happens with Honda Civic and Honda CR-V owners according to Polk, a global automotive market research company. Every year, the company recognizes automakers that achieve above-average owner retention in its Polk Automotive Loyalty Awards.

These awards are based on actual model year purchase/lease activity available through state registration and lease transaction information. And Civic and CR-V owners have been so pleased with their vehicle that they decided to purchase the new 2012 version of the same car. “Honda’s wins this year are a great example of their commitment to owner loyalty,” said Brad Smith of Polk’s Loyalty Management Practice.

The 2012 Honda Civic won the Compact Car loyalty award and the 2012 Honda CR-V won the Compact SUV loyalty award. “Winning three awards from Polk in these hard-fought segments validates Honda’s commitment to high vehicle quality and long-term customer satisfaction,” said Tom Peyton, assistant vice president of Advertising and Marketing at American Honda Motor Co.

Check out for yourself why these owners keep coming back to the same vehicle and schedule your test drive online. Our lot is full of Honda Civics for sale and Honda CR-Vs for sale that are waiting for you.

Eleven 2013 Honda models named Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ by IIHS

Friday, January 18th, 2013

2013 Honda Accord austin tx

If safety is what you’re looking for in your new car, you can bet you have it in a 2013 Honda. In fact, you can actually take your pick among the lineup of eleven 2013 Honda models because they all passed the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash tests with the highest possible ratings.

The completely redesigned 2013 Honda Accord (sedan and coupe) took the crown among all earning a TOP SAFETY PICK+ by passing the new small overlap frontal crash test which now has more aggressive and stringent guidelines. This test replicates what happens when the front corner of a car crashes with another vehicle or an object (tree, utility pole, etc.). And the new Accord is one of the first vehicles ever to earn this safety rating.

If you’re looking for something that the Accord doesn’t offer, do not worry because the 2013 Civic Sedan, 2013 Fit, 2013 Crosstour, 2013 CR-V, 2013 CR-Z, 2013 Insight, 2013 Pilot, 2013 Odyssey and 2013 Ridgeline were also named TOP SAFETY PICK by the IIHS. All of the models earned the top rating of GOOD in the four rating areas tested.

Honda has a long history of engineering advanced safety technology and designs into their products. This commitment stems from their goal to be a company that society wants to exist. We’ve made this commitment as well. Although we can’t manufacture vehicles, we CAN and DO try our absolute hardest to be the Honda dealer in Austin that the city wants to exist. I hope you can help us achieve this goal (in your safe Honda, of course).

UPDATE: The redesigned 2013 Honda Civic (both sedan and coupe models) have earned the Top Safety Pick+ recognition as well! This is the first small car in the US to achieve the enhanced safety pick status, making Honda the only automaker to offer four different vehicles with Top Safety Pick+ marks.

Honda: King of Cars.com’s 2012 Shootout Competitions

Saturday, January 12th, 2013

Honda winner 2012 cars.comIt has been a big year for Honda: a record comeback from 2011’s earthquake and tsunami in Japan which wiped most of the inventory; three vehicle redesign introductions that drove them back to the top of the most coveted car segments in the market; and complete domination of Cars.com’s 2012 shootouts.

This year’s face-offs, held by Cars.com, USA Today and MotorWeek, placed six popular vehicles in each of the most competitive segments against each other in an all-out battle for the best car. And the results were clear: Honda vehicles are the best choice.

The 2013 Honda Accord, 2012 Honda Fit and 2012 Honda CR-V earned the highest scores on the three challenges intended to find the best car in each segment. A panel of five experts and a real-world, in-market family tested every vehicle in the shootouts and concluded that the Honda entries were the winners – actually besting the competition by an average of 26 points on the tests.

The 2013 Honda Accord won the $26,000 Midsize Sedan shootout; the 2012 Honda CR-V won the $25,000 Compact SUV shootout; and the 2012 Honda Fit won the $16,000 Subcompact shootout.

Why the 2013 CR-V is better than its 2013 compact SUV competitors

2013 Honda CR-V Austin TX

The entry-level SUV segment includes a wide variety of vehicles. Recent buying trends have moved away from rugged truck-like styling and handling in favor of a more comfortable ride and better fuel economy. While some crossover competitors are designed with truck-like features, the styling of the 2013 CR-V is more akin to midsize luxury SUV’s.

2013 Honda CR-V vs 2012 Toyota Rav4

  • - Safer: The CR-V received a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Safety Score from the NHTSA, while the Rav4 receved 4-stars.
  • - The CR-V tops the Rav4 in ALG residual values.
  • - Standard features: the CR-V offers Hill Satart assist and daytime running lights on all models, while those features are optional or part of a regional package on the Rav4.
  • - There’s more shoulder room and hiproom in both rows on the CR-V.
  • - More power and efficiency: The CR-V has more horsepower than the Rav4′s 4-cylinder (185 hp vs 179 hp) and better fuel economy in every category.

2013 Honda CR-V vs 2012 Nissan Rogue

  • - Roomier:  the CR-V offers more front shoulder room and hiproom than the Rogue, and more room in every dimension in back.
  • - Cargo Space: the CR-V has much more maximum cargo volume than Rogue: 70.9 cu ft vs. 57.9 cu ft.
  • - More standard features: the standard hill start assist and daytime running lights on the CR-V are not available or offered on the Rogue.
  • - The CR-V tends to be much less expensive when comparably equipped but retains much more of its value, according to ALG.
  • - Better capacity: the CR-V 2WD models have a higher towing capacity (1,500 lbs vs. 1,000 lbs).

2013 Honda CR-V vs 2012 Hyundai Tucson

  • - Safer: the CR-V received a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Safety Score from the NHTSA vs 4 stars for the Tucson.
  • - CR-V’s ALG residual values are higher
  • - Multi-angle rearview camera is standard on all CR-V trims, but is only available as an option on Tucson.
  • - More power: CR-V has more horsepower than Tucson, 185 vs. 176.
  • - Roomier: the CR-V has more front headroom, legroom and shoulder room, and more 2nd-row shoulder room. The CR-V also offers much greater room behind the 2nd-row seats (37.2 cu ft vs. 25.7 cu ft) as well as much greater maximum cargo volume (70.9 cu ft vs. 55.8 cu ft).
  • - Better capacity: CR-V’s standard towing capacity handily exceeds Tucson’s, 1,500 lbs vs. 1,000 lbs.

2013 Honda CR-V vs 2013 Ford Escape

  • - More fuel efficient: Even the most fuel-efficient Escape — the S with the 2.5-liter engine — gets lower EPA ratings than the front-wheel-drive CR-V models in the city and combined categories.
  • - More room: the CR-V has more rear legroom and hiproom, and more shoulder room in both rows. The CR-V also has more cargo volume with the rear seats up (37.2 cu ft vs. 34.3 cu ft) and the rear seats down (70.9 cu ft vs. 68.1 cu ft).
  • - Historically, the CR-V has retained considerably more value than the Escape, according to ALG.
  • - Less expensive: Comparably equipped, the Escape tends to be quite a bit more expensive than its CR-V counterpart.
  • - More power: the CR-V has 17 more peak horsepower than the Escape S (185 hp vs. 168 hp).

2013 Honda CR-V vs 2012 Subaru Forester

  • - Motortrend.com calls Forester’s 4-speed automatic “an obvious anachronism”; the CR-V, of course, comes with a smooth-shifting 5-speed automatic
  • - The CR-V received a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Safety Score from the NHTSA  vs. 4 stars for Forester.
  • - Less expensive: the CR-V is much less expensive than Forester when comparably equipped.
  • - More cargo room: the CR-V’s cargo volume behind the second row tops the Forester’s by 6.4 cu ft, and the CR-V’s maximum cargo volume is 7.9 cu ft greater.
  • - More passenger room: the CR-V provides more front shoulder room and hiproom, as well as more room in every second-row dimension.
  • - Forester drivers don’t get the benefits of a telescopic steering column or a maintenance minder system as the CR-V provides.
  • - More fuel efficient: the Forester’s normally aspirated models fall short of CR-V AWD’s by an EPA estimated rating of 1 mpg city and 3 mpg highway.

2013 Honda CR-V leads the road

Phot credit: Autoweek

Fresh off a complete redesign and new updates last year, the 2013 Honda CR-V is entering the market now as a leader in the compact SUV market. Incredibly roomy inside, yet with an easy to maneuver smaller shell, the 2013 Honda CR-V is the vehicle. The compact SUV market may be flooded with entries, but you’d be hard-pressed to do better than the 2013 Honda CR-V.

Beyond the stylish exterior of the Honda CR-V, the car is very impressive inside with its roomy 5-passenger capacity. While it provides great seating options, the CR-V also is a great hauler. To get it into “hauling mode” all you have to do is simply pull a lever to fold down the split rear seat. The ease in which the 2013 Honda CR-V transforms between people hauler and cargo hauler is seamless, which automatically makes the new CR-V a top pick for anyone.

As far as efficiency goes, the 2013 Honda CR-V easily gets into the 30s MPG range on the highway. The CR-V does a good job at completing the rare combination of performance and efficiency. It even offers a pleasant ride with its custom suspension, completing the equation.

Safety is another area where the 2013 Honda CR-V is top notch. The CR-V was named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and got a perfect five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

2012 Honda CR-V reigns supreme in compact SUV shootout

Monday, July 23rd, 2012

2012 Honda CR-V reigns supreme in compact SUV shootoutToday, Cars.com, USAToday and MotorWeek announced the results of their compact SUV shootout. For three days automotive experts and a family of four tested six compact SUV’s in the Chicago area to see which vehicle offered the most for the price.

With the criteria set, all six SUV’s had a price cap of $25,000 (excluding destination fees) and a minimum EPA highway rating of 30 mpg. The five expert judges and the family of four tested each vehicle in an urban and interstate driving setting to accurately attribute scores to each. 75% of the total 1,000 points available were based on the expert’s scores, 15% came from the family’s scores, and 10% was based on the fuel economy; needless to say, none received a perfect score.

At the end of the day, our very own newly redesigned 2012 Honda CR-V takes the #1 spot as the best compact SUV in the shootout with 809 points! “It drives like a dream,” said Erin Ravelingeen, mother of two and in-market family tester. “The CR-V is loaded with convenience features that come standard,” said Jennifer Geiger, editor at Cars.com and mom of one. “Three of my favorites are the always-helpful backup camera, the cavernous center console box and the easy fold-flat seats with cargo-area release handles.” With Honda’s strong reliability history, a bounty of features and solid ride, the 2012 CR-V took home the crown of best compact SUV in the segment.
