2013 CR-Z & Insight a USAA Best Value

Monday, May 6th, 2013
2013-Honda-Insight -Austin-TX

2013 Honda Insight

USAA released its 2013 Best Value vehicles last month, naming the top automobiles that offer affordability, reliability, and safety. The 2013 Honda CR-Z and Honda Insight were both rated by USAA as a Best Value. The former was named in the Best Value List for the Coupe category and the Best Value for Teens. The later was named a Best Value for Teens.

The Best Value List presents vehicles that offer the, you guessed it, best overall value among all the vehicles that USAA evaluates as part of its USAA Preferred system. Their proprietary statistical model uses quantitative data to analyze vehicle’s cost, safety and reliability of over 70 automobiles. USAA Preferred vehicles rank in the top 40% of each vehicle category AND are an IIHS’s Top Safety Pick. The top vehicles for each category are included in the Best Value List.

As for the Top 10 for Teens list, USAA also selects USAA Preferred vehicles, but they have to cost less than $25,500 and rank highest in safety, reliability, and insurance costs – important factors for parents of teen drivers.

“This year we raised the bar on the importance of safety standards. Vehicles must earn a Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) tp qualify as USAA Preferred,” said Steve Thompson, vice president for USAA Car Buying Service. “A USAA Preferred vehicle is a great value financially, and is among the safest vehicles on the road.”

Eleven 2013 Honda models named Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ by IIHS

2013 Honda Accord austin tx

If safety is what you’re looking for in your new car, you can bet you have it in a 2013 Honda. In fact, you can actually take your pick among the lineup of eleven 2013 Honda models because they all passed the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash tests with the highest possible ratings.

The completely redesigned 2013 Honda Accord (sedan and coupe) took the crown among all earning a TOP SAFETY PICK+ by passing the new small overlap frontal crash test which now has more aggressive and stringent guidelines. This test replicates what happens when the front corner of a car crashes with another vehicle or an object (tree, utility pole, etc.). And the new Accord is one of the first vehicles ever to earn this safety rating.

If you’re looking for something that the Accord doesn’t offer, do not worry because the 2013 Civic Sedan, 2013 Fit, 2013 Crosstour, 2013 CR-V, 2013 CR-Z, 2013 Insight, 2013 Pilot, 2013 Odyssey and 2013 Ridgeline were also named TOP SAFETY PICK by the IIHS. All of the models earned the top rating of GOOD in the four rating areas tested.

Honda has a long history of engineering advanced safety technology and designs into their products. This commitment stems from their goal to be a company that society wants to exist. We’ve made this commitment as well. Although we can’t manufacture vehicles, we CAN and DO try our absolute hardest to be the Honda dealer in Austin that the city wants to exist. I hope you can help us achieve this goal (in your safe Honda, of course).

UPDATE: The redesigned 2013 Honda Civic (both sedan and coupe models) have earned the Top Safety Pick+ recognition as well! This is the first small car in the US to achieve the enhanced safety pick status, making Honda the only automaker to offer four different vehicles with Top Safety Pick+ marks.

2013 Honda CR-Z Hybrid

The 2013 Honda CR-Z Hybrid hatchback was revealed in Paris.

Like many auto enthusiasts out there, we’ve been waiting for details on the new second-generation 2013 Honda CR-Z. Last week, Honda finally provided a sneak peak at the new CR-Z at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. The all-new CR-Z will get a slew of updates and is more stylish and performance-minded than it was in the past.

While there is no mistaking it is a CR-Z, the new hybrid hatchback has some exterior and interior changes, including revisions to the front bumper, headlamp, grille, and even getting sleeker 17-inch alloy wheels. There will also be new color options, with Energetic Yellow and Aurora Violet getting into the mix.

Under the hood, the new 2013 Honda CR-Z Hybrid will get more power, increasing the output of its 1.5-liter engine from 112 to 119 horsepower. With the electric motor added in, the output increases to 135 horsepower. In addition, the car will feature a Plus Sport (S+) button on the steering wheel that will provide an electric boost, giving the car increased acceleration for up to 10 seconds. With all of these things in play, the 2013 Honda CR-Z Hybrid hatchback can reach a top speed of 124 mph and go from 0-to-60 in 9 seconds.

Honda CR-Z Wins Major International Industrial Design Award

Honda CR-Z wins major design award

The Honda CR-Z sport hybrid recently won an industrial design award at the Australian International Design Awards. These awards are one of the most respected and longest running awards of their kind.

The Honda CR-Z was awarded the 2012 Design Award in the Automotive and Transport category. Judges singled out the CR-Z for its many positive attributes, including the futuristic design and superior aerodynamics; the three powertrain modes available (Normal, Sport and Econ); and the six-speed manual transmission – the first hybrid to feature such.

Basically, what the judges found was a car that has features that are ahead of its time. The sporty hybrid Honda gets outstanding efficiency without losing the cool factor – something that many other hybrid vehicles lack. With an EPA rating of 37 miles per gallon combined fuel economy, the Honda CR-Z is a practical sports car, which is a rare thing in the industry.

“The CR-Z is truly in a class of its own, with styling that turns heads, advanced fuel efficiency and a drive that is fun, exciting and engaging,” said Honda Australia’s Lindsay Smalley.

Have you seen the Honda CR-Z in Austin? There are a few proud owners roaming the streets and, if you see one, it will surely turn make your head turn.

Howdy Honda Priority Spotlight: Fuel Economy

Howdy Honda Priority Spotlight: Fuel Economy
Howdy Honda Priority Spotlight: Fuel Economy

In a recent 2011 study conducted by Maritz Research, more than 40 percent of car consumers look at fuel economy as an “extremely important” option when shopping for a new vehicle. Taking that fact one step further, the annual study also found that 1 in 3 consumers believe that fuel efficiency will play the largest impact regarding the next vehicle they purchase. That percentage is even higher among younger buyers.

Fuel efficiency numbers are evolving strongly due to the millennial age group, ranging from late teens to early 30’s, and their large emphasis on fuel economy. 46 percent of Millennials view fuel economy as “extremely important” during their new vehicle search; this is the single highest percentage in any other age group by a landslide. Of those 46 percent, 41 percent believe that fuel economy is the single most important option when buying a new vehicle.

If you’re one of those seeking optimal fuel efficiency on your next car, you might want to check out some Honda models. Honda is renowned for fuel-efficiency because of their hybrid, electric and fuel-cell vehicle selection, and the EcoAssist technology they have implemented over the years. Some of the most fuel efficient Hondas we have here are: Honda Civic Hybrid, Honda Insight and the Honda CR-Z.

The Honda Civic Hybrid offers a stunning 44 miles-per-gallon that will keep your money where it belongs, in your wallet. This also holds true for both the Honda Insight and the Honda CR-Z, as the Insight gets an average of 43 miles-per-gallon and the sporty CR-Z averages at 34 miles-per-gallon.

Modern buyers, like you, expect the best possible fuel-economy out of their new car; I mean, we expect it too! If you think about it, not only it saves money, but it’s also much better for our planet. The Earth’s resources are finite and we can help decrease our carbon footprint by being more efficient with our car’s fuel consumption. Cue saving-the-world music.

Honda Civic & Honda CR-Z Rank Best in Toxic Interior Rankings

Honda Ranks Best in Toxic Interior Rankings

Many car manufacturers are doing their part to reduce their carbon footprint as they scramble to meet growing consumer preference towards efficiency. Yes car manufacturers are getting more and more miles per gallon out of their powertrains, but what about the materials being used for the exterior/interior of the vehicle? As a Austin Honda dealer we’re excited to hear that based on recent testing, Honda ranks best in toxic interior rankings.

On top of the Ecology Center’s list of vehicles with the least toxic interiors you will find two Honda models, the Honda Civic and the Honda CR-Z.

As a whole, the Ecology Center found that vehicle interior ratings are making a step in the right direction, but aren’t where they would like them to be just quite yet. Throughout the study, researchers from the Ecology Center looked at more than 200, 2011 and 2012 vehicle models for various chemicals. Who knew that the “new car smell” that everyone has grown to love could actually be bad for you?

This may seem irrelevant to you, but the data is quite staggering. Consider the fact that the “average American” spends roughly 1.5 hours in their car a day. Then consider the fact that, odds are, your vehicle  contains some capacity of brominated flame retardants, PVC, bromine, chlorine, lead and other heavy metals.  Lastly, consider that by making consistent contact with these toxic chemicals can lead to certain health problems including; development of allergies, birth defects in newborns, liver toxicity and cancer to name a few. Scary.

Research Director at the Ecology Center, Jeff Gearhart stated that, “these chemicals are not regulated, so car buyers have no way of knowing what dangers they face.”

If you’re looking to buy a car from a company that truly is committed to leaving the smallest carbon footprint possible, in all facets, don’t overlook a Honda Civic in Austin at Howdy Honda. With a wide selection of trim levels and options the Civic is as versatile, and as “green” as they come.

Howdy Honda’s Priority Spotlight: Safety

Friday, February 17th, 2012

2012 Honda Safety Austin TXWhen buying a vehicle car buyers have an internal checklist of priorities that must be present in their new vehicle for them to buy it. Safety is almost always present in that checklist of priorities, and for some, it’s at the top of the list. Thankfully, Honda understands the importance of a safe vehicle, which is why their designs are centered on safety. As a consequence, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded nine 2012 Honda models with a Top Safety Pick for 2012.

The Honda models selected as Top Safety Picks for 2012 are the Honda Fit, Honda Civic (4-door), Honda CR-Z, Honda Insight, Honda Odyssey, Honda Ridgeline, Honda CR-V, Honda Accord and Honda Pilot. As you can see, everything from Honda’s small car, the Honda Fit, to their large pickup truck, Honda Ridgeline, were all named to this illustrious list by the IIHS. This shows that size does not matter; when you buy a Honda you’re buying safety.

Honda pushes for greatness in all respects, and safety is at the top of their list. Back in 2000, Honda opened the first indoor multi-directional crash test safety facility. In 2003, Honda added a new automotive safety research facility to their Research & Development center in Ohio. By doing so, Honda has two of the world’s most advanced indoor crash safety research facilities. At these facilities, Honda runs a vast number of tests to give the people at Honda a better understanding of real world collisions. With this information, Honda can make better technologies and offer safer vehicles.

With an emphasis on safety, Honda is associated with creating some of the safest vehicles in the world. If you want to check out a Honda in Austin, stop by Howdy Honda and check out the fleet of Top Safety Picks for 2012.

Honda Top Safety Rating

On December 15, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) revealed its list of winners for their high-ranking Top Safety Pick award. Howdy Honda is proud to announce that nine new 2012 Honda models received such prestigious accolades.

IIHS’ Top Safety Pick award recognizes those cars that perform the best in protecting passengers that are involved in front, side, rear and rollover crashes. The Institute’s tests and ratings help shoppers make better decisions and evaluate vehicles that offer best-in-class crash protection.

The IIHS awarded the 2012 Civic and Odyssey earlier this year with a Top Safety Pick award; now the IIHS has come out with the complete list of 2012 model winners. In addition to the Civic and Odyssey, Honda earned the accolade for the 2012 Fit, CR-Z, CR-V, Insight, Accord, Pilot and Ridgeline. This demonstrates Honda’s commitment in designing strong safety features in their cars.

Thursday, September 29th, 2011

As a Honda dealer in Central Texas, we know how to appreciate unique things. Recently, fashion-forward car magazine, Intersection, unveiled its own fashionable rendition of a Honda CR-Z. The magazine teamed up with Honda to create the special-edition coupe for their latest project.

The hybrid CR-Z features matte beige exteriors with orange steel wheels on matching orange tires for the summer, and black wheels on black tires for the winter edition; while the interior of the CR-Z was designed by British design firm Eley Kishimoto. The vehicle was revealed at the Galerie Nikki Diana Marquardt in Paris, and, although this is a one off, Honda France is reportedly considering selling a limited number of these.

The magazine’s collaboration with Honda resulted in a very interesting product. Take a look at the pictures and see for yourself. What do you think of the beige and orange CR-Z?
