U.S. News & World Report presented its annual “Best Cars for Families” Awards to recognize vehicles “that offer the best combination of quality, space and family-friendly features.” And two of our favorite vehicles were included in this year’s honors.
The 2013 Honda CR-V was praised because of its “impressive safety and reliable ratings make it a smart choice among affordable compact SUVs.” Also, “the Honda CR-V shines with nimble handling, a spacious interior and a standard rearview camera.” Add to that the standard Bluetooth Handsfreelink and you can start to see why the CR-V is in the top of the list for families.
Meanwhile, the comfortable seating, seating configurations and roomy cabin made the 2013 Honda Odyssey stand out among the pack. The publication noted that people raved about its “car-like performance” and excellent safety features.
The 2013 Austin Arthritis Walk is a fundraising 5k walk for the whole family (including pets) benefiting the Arthritis Foundation. We are very excited to once again be a sponsor of the Austin Arthritis Walk and help support the mission of the Arthritis Foundation. Come join us at 8am on April 27th at Concordia University!
How to join?
You can sign up online at http://www.austinarthritiswalk.org to walk as an individual or you can create a team and enlist your family and friends to join you in the walk as well.
What is the Austin Arthritis Walk about?
The Arthritis Walk is a super fun way for all the Austin community to come together and help raise funds for the Arthritis Foundation, which focuses on preventing, treating and researching a cure for arthritis. This year’s goal is $125,000 and we can do it!
Did you know that 46 million people in the U.S. are affected by arthritis? Too many if you ask us. However, we can help make a difference. Join us on April 27th and let’s move together!
Take a look below at some of the pictures we took last year at the event!
Our favorite minivan, the Honda Odyssey, was re-introduced to the world at the 2013 New York International Auto Show as a thoroughly refreshed 2014 model, setting the new standard as the “ultimate family vehicle.” What will you find in our showroom this summer? Besides a host of exterior, interior and safety upgrades, the 2014 Odyssey will bring something never before seen in a vehicle.
At the NYIAS, Honda displayed the 2014 Odyssey Touring Elite to demonstrate all of the new and improved features. Behind the scenes, Honda updated the structural integrity of the vehicle to help it achieve TOP SAFETY PICK+ status. The Touring Elite will also come with advanced safety features like an expanded view driver’s mirror, Forward Collision Warning (FWC), and Lane Departure Warning (LDW).
As far as exterior styling goes, the new Odyssey will look sleeker and more sophisticated with a more deeply sculpted hood, new front fenders, bolder twin-bar grille, refreshed lower front facia with integrated chrome e-trimmed fog lights, darker-finish projector-beam headlight housings, and LED taillight bars.
Inside the 2014 Odyssey you will find an all-new center stack and new finishes. On the Touring Elite you’ll have an array of new standard technology like keyless Smart Entry with Push Button Start, HD Radio, SMS text messaging function and HondaLink.
Now the feature that will push you from wanting the Odyssey to needing the Odyssey is the first-ever in-vehicle vacuum system, the HondaVac. Honda partnered with industry leader Shop-Vac to develop the innovative HondaVac which will come standard on the Touring Elite trims. You will find the vacuum integrated in a dedicated space on the driver’s side bulkhead of the rear cargo area. The powerful vacuum comes with a replaceable filter, canister bag and expandable hose with attachments, and can reach every corner of the vehicle’s cabin – is that amazing or what?! The HondaVac runs on an electric motor that doesn’t need an outlet or recharging, it operates continuously when the engine is running and can continue to operate for up to eight minutes when the Odyssey is turned off.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the government agency under the US Department of Transportation in charge of carrying out safety programs for traffic and vehicle safety, just announced the release of their SafeCar app for smartphones.
The new app provides the safety ratings of vehicles, but the real kick of the app is that it allows you to register your vehicle and receive recall and safety notifications (were your car involved in one). Besides that, it lets you file vehicle complaints with the NHTSA, get directions to the nearest child-seat inspection station and read NHTSA headlines.
The app is free and, although only currently available for the iOS platform (iPhone, iPad, iPod), the agency is working on developing the Android version.
It’s time to celebrate and welcome you to the Howdy Honda family – and that’s exactly what we’ll do at our new Honda Owner Workshop (HOW)!
What is the HOW? The HOW is the celebration of you as a new Howdy Honda owner. During the workshop you’ll be introduced by our Service Director, Jeff Dahl, to all the aspects of our dealership as well as some tips & tricks about your new Honda. Jeff will go over the different maintenance items you need to know, warranty coverage, and general service department information (so you know when the best times to come in are, who to call, etc.). Then, you’ll visit your new Honda model with a technician and he’ll point out all of the relevant information regarding your specific vehicle. We will also provide food, goodies, giveaway items and a general good time.
Our very first HOW will be held on Wednesday, March 27th at 6pm. If you plan to attend, please RSVP with Iris Claudio at 512-443-4300 or email@example.com.
And while we knew the car is a great value, US News & World Report confirms it as it named the 2013 Fit for two “Best Cars for the Money” awards. The Fit earned the title of “Best Subcompact for the Money” and “Best Hatchback for the Money” among all of the 2013 vehicles sold in the U.S.
“The Fit brings truth to the concept that big things can come in small packages,” said Mike Accavitti, vice president of national marketing operations for American Honda Motor Co. “With an amazingly roomy interior, snappy styling, great driving dynamics and industry-leading Honda quality, Fit proves that small cars can provide value well beyond their size.”
The US News & World Report methodology combines the quality of the vehicle (measured by the overall score the car received in the US News car rankings) and its value (measured by combining the vehicle’s five-year total cost of ownership and the average price paid for it) for a total composite score.
After a year of no love shown to Honda by Consumer Reports, we’re back in business for 2013. In fact, Honda picked up three slots on this year’s Top Picks list; chosen from more than 280 vehicles the publication recently tested.
Earning a Top Pick status from Consumer Reports is no easy task. Each Top Pick has to excel in the road test, earn an average or better predicted-reliability rating, and perform adequately in independent safety tests conducted by government or insurance agencies.
The Consumer Reports’ Top Honda Picks for 2013 are:
You can purchase raffle tickets from March 27, 2013 until June 24, 2013. Each ticket is $1 and will be available for purchase at every United Heritage Credit Union branch location.
The money raised through the auto raffle will benefit local charities and organizations that the Foundation supports. For example, past auto raffles have led to the support of organizations like Habitat for Humanity of Williamson County, CASA of Travis County, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Austin, Ripples of Hope for Children, among many others.
Last year, Sally King from Llano TX won the new 2012 Honda Civic. Watch her reaction and a brief interview with Chairman of the United Heritage Board of Directors, May Lofgreen, in the video below:
