People are looking forward to finding out what the auto companies will come up with this year for the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show. Looking back at the 2009 show, Honda’s P-Nut, or Personal-Neo Urban Transport, turned heads with its innovative and radical design.
With its windshield extending from the front of the hood all the way to the back of the P-Nut’s roof, Honda’s design provides the driver with amazing visibility.
As expected in a Honda, the design focuses on interior occupants as well as exterior style. The P-Nut’s design provides occupants with plenty of legroom. And even with this ultra-compact, Honda didn’t forget about storage space. By simply folding up the rear seats, storage is immediately available.
Honda built the P-Nut’s rear engine bay in a way that it can contain a number of different powertrain technologies. According to Honda, the design can accommodate a “conventional small displacement internal-combustion engine, a hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain, or a battery-electric powertrain.”
According to TopSpeed.com, Dave Marek, director of advanced design for Honda R&D Americas, said that “the objective of the exterior and interior designers was to explore the potential for a new type of small-segment-category vehicle that overcomes many of the objections for existing micro-car designs…the Honda P-NUT concept introduces function-oriented concepts, it also shows that small cars don’t have to compromise on style or amenities.”
Marek further explains how the P-Nut would be a great asset for those living in populated urban areas: “A new generation is discovering the benefits of living in urban centers that provide convenient access to business, entertainment and social opportunities,” he said. “The Personal-Neo Urban Transport concept explores the packaging and design potential for a vehicle conceived exclusively around the city lifestyle.”
