2012 Honda Civic

Have you ever liked your car so much that when it comes time to replace it the only option you can think of is getting a newer version of the same car?

Well, that’s exactly what happens with Honda Civic and Honda CR-V owners according to Polk, a global automotive market research company. Every year, the company recognizes automakers that achieve above-average owner retention in its Polk Automotive Loyalty Awards.

These awards are based on actual model year purchase/lease activity available through state registration and lease transaction information. And Civic and CR-V owners have been so pleased with their vehicle that they decided to purchase the new 2012 version of the same car. “Honda’s wins this year are a great example of their commitment to owner loyalty,” said Brad Smith of Polk’s Loyalty Management Practice.

The 2012 Honda Civic won the Compact Car loyalty award and the 2012 Honda CR-V won the Compact SUV loyalty award. “Winning three awards from Polk in these hard-fought segments validates Honda’s commitment to high vehicle quality and long-term customer satisfaction,” said Tom Peyton, assistant vice president of Advertising and Marketing at American Honda Motor Co.

Check out for yourself why these owners keep coming back to the same vehicle and schedule your test drive online. Our lot is full of Honda Civics for sale and Honda CR-Vs for sale that are waiting for you.

Howdy Honda Priority Spotlight: Automatic vs Manual Transmission?

Howdy Honda Priority Spotlight: Automatic vs Manual Transmission?

Howdy Honda Priority Spotlight: Automatic vs Manual Transmission?

You probably already decided which type of transmission you are going to have on your next car. However, the decision should really depend on what type of driving you usually do. For city driving an automatic transmission is usually recommended, but for driving in rougher terrain (steep curves, mountains, mud, etc) a manual transmission is your best choice. Why is this? What is really the difference between the two?

Automatic

An automatic transmission offers drivers an easy way to drive a vehicle as the vehicle does all the shifting automatically. This allows for drivers to put more attention on the road itself and allows drivers to survey the elements surrounding them on a more frequent basis. Vehicles outfitted with automatic transmissions also are much easier to drive in large cities due to the frequent stop-and-go traffic, which can give owners of a vehicle with a manual transmission a headache.

Manual

Manual transmissions may be known as ‘harder’ to drive, but they offer a wide variety of benefits to drivers as well. The most popular reason why drivers select a vehicle with a manual transmission is efficiency, as manual transmissions offer more efficient fuel economy. Another big advantage of a manual transmission is that vehicles with a manual transmission are often-times cheaper than vehicles with an automatic transmission. Lastly, those who prefer a manual transmission like the added ‘control’ that it gives them behind the wheel as they (drivers) are the ones shifting the vehicle from one gear to the next.

Although each transmission offer a pros and cons, the final decision  should come down to the type of driving you engage in and what  you need your car to do for you (be fuel efficient, performance, etc). Honda has a quite a few models that come with a manual transmission: Honda Civic, Honda Accord, Honda Fit, and the Honda CR-Z. They are definitely worth a look as the y have top safety, reliability and resale value ratings. Give us a call at 512-443-4300 to schedule a test drive.

Honda Wins Edmunds.com's 2012 Best Retained Value Brand Award
Honda Wins Edmunds.com’s 2012 Best Retained Value Brand Award

For the second consecutive year, Honda has claimed victory of Edmunds.com’s 2012 Best Retained Value non-luxury brand award. The site’s award aims to recognize brands and new car models that have the best projected residual value after five years of ownership.

Honda is known for making reliable and quality vehicles, and this award is a reflection of that effort. According to Edmunds.com, the average resale value of a Honda after five years of ownership is about 47.9% of the original price.

Joe Spina, Director of Remarketing for Edmunds.com said, “Honda has long had a reputation for dependable used vehicles, and that is reflected in today’s booming used car market…Honda’s family of vehicles continues to expand the company’s status as one of the best values available to car buyers today.”

Besides the brand awards, Edmunds.com also recognizes individual new car models and names a total of 23 Best Retained Value award winners in model-level categories. Honda has four 2012 model winners. These include: Honda Civic Hybrid for the Hybrid category; Honda Civic Sedan for the Sedan Under $20k category; Honda CR-V for the SUV $25k-$35k category; and the Honda Odyssey for the Vans category.

Three Honda Models Named Top 10 Best Family Cars of 2012 by KBB

Honda Has Large Presence on KBB.com’s Best Family Cars of 2012

Kelley Blue Book (KBB.com) recently named three different Honda models to their annual “10 Best Family Cars” list for 2012. In order to make this list, vehicles must feature a family-approved mentality and feature such characteristics including; comfort, child-friendliness, safety features and strong consumer evaluations to name a few. You can image that as a leading Honda dealer in Central Texas, these news put a smile on our face. Let’s see who made the list…

The 2012 Hondas named as part of the “10 Best Family Cars” are the 2012 Honda Odyssey, 2012 Honda Civic and 2012 Honda CR-V. Being a part of KBB.com’s list is nothing new for Honda vehicles. Dating back to KBB.com’s Best Family Vehicles inaugural year, 2008, Honda has had nine different vehicles make the list. These include; the Honda Civic, Honda Crosstour, Honda Odyssey and now the Honda CR-V. With more and more comfort, child-friendly, and safety features, we expect Honda to remain on this list for the next few years.

Michael Accavitti, VP of Marketing Operations for American Honda, praised the recognition from KBB.com stating that, “We(American Honda) are honored to have three members of the Honda lineup recognized as benchmark family cars by Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com. To be recognized as providing the kind of safety, features and value required of the modern family machine speaks to the core attributes of every Honda vehicle.”

Families appreciate when automakers understand their needs and concerns when designing a vehicle, which is why Kelley Blue Book recognizes the importance of identifying the best models. Now, we would tell you that these Hondas on the list are the best, but that would be biased. Nonetheless, they are and you should check them out if you are looking for a family car. We have a children’s area and a fridge filled with different juices so your kids can have a good time while you look around.

How do automakers come up with car names?

how do automakers come up with car names

How do automakers come up with car names?

So how do car manufacturers come up with names for their car lines? After all, it’s just a name and it will only take up a small space on the back of a vehicle that costs tens of thousands of dollars. How hard could it be? Try really hard.

The name of a car model is the result of the perfect mix between research, imagination, and a little bit of good judgment. Automakers face a big challenge when it comes time to name their new model line. They need to select a name that hasn’t been already trademarked, doesn’t mean anything negative in another language, and doesn’t have a negative connotation. It must also be pleasant to the ear, easy to understand, reflect the car’s image, and resonate with the primary market. Tough.

The process of naming a new car starts as early as two years before the vehicle hits the showroom floor. The name is a critical component of the car’s marketing plan, so the naming process usually involves third parties, like advertising or branding agencies, as well as the company’s top executives. Parties involved look for creative inspiration in a myriad of places like dictionaries, maps, seasons, minerals, themes, product codes and corporate archives to come up with a list of potential names.

The final name will depend on the automaker’s goals: What connection do they want the consumer to make between the name and image of the car? What emotion should the name of the car evoke? This, folks, is behind-the-scenes marketing magic at work.

What do you think is the story behind the Honda Civic’s name? How about the Honda Fit? Let us know what you think!

Honda Civic & Honda CR-Z Rank Best in Toxic Interior Rankings

Honda Ranks Best in Toxic Interior Rankings

Many car manufacturers are doing their part to reduce their carbon footprint as they scramble to meet growing consumer preference towards efficiency. Yes car manufacturers are getting more and more miles per gallon out of their powertrains, but what about the materials being used for the exterior/interior of the vehicle? As a Austin Honda dealer we’re excited to hear that based on recent testing, Honda ranks best in toxic interior rankings.

On top of the Ecology Center’s list of vehicles with the least toxic interiors you will find two Honda models, the Honda Civic and the Honda CR-Z.

As a whole, the Ecology Center found that vehicle interior ratings are making a step in the right direction, but aren’t where they would like them to be just quite yet. Throughout the study, researchers from the Ecology Center looked at more than 200, 2011 and 2012 vehicle models for various chemicals. Who knew that the “new car smell” that everyone has grown to love could actually be bad for you?

This may seem irrelevant to you, but the data is quite staggering. Consider the fact that the “average American” spends roughly 1.5 hours in their car a day. Then consider the fact that, odds are, your vehicle  contains some capacity of brominated flame retardants, PVC, bromine, chlorine, lead and other heavy metals.  Lastly, consider that by making consistent contact with these toxic chemicals can lead to certain health problems including; development of allergies, birth defects in newborns, liver toxicity and cancer to name a few. Scary.

Research Director at the Ecology Center, Jeff Gearhart stated that, “these chemicals are not regulated, so car buyers have no way of knowing what dangers they face.”

If you’re looking to buy a car from a company that truly is committed to leaving the smallest carbon footprint possible, in all facets, don’t overlook a Honda Civic in Austin at Howdy Honda. With a wide selection of trim levels and options the Civic is as versatile, and as “green” as they come.

This past week was the L.A. Auto Show, where Honda unveiled the newly redesigned 2012 CR-V and the all-electric 2013 Fit EV. However the big surprise was not those vehicles; this Honda car dealership right here is excited to announce the winner of the Green Car of the Year of the L.A. Auto Show.

The 2012 Honda Civic Natural Gas was officially deemed the Green Car of the Year at the auto show by a panel of judges that included representatives from Sierra Club, Natural Resources Defense Council, Ocean Futures Society and Global Green USA, as well as Jay Leno and Carroll Shelby. “This to Honda is everything. Environmental awareness is right in our wheelhouse,” said Michael Accavitti, vice president of marketing for American Honda Motor Co.

This is the fifth-generation Civic that runs on natural gas and it went head to head with nearly all other green technology vehicles that are available in the market today. “There is no other vehicle like the Civic Natural Gas on American highways, and this recognition has been a long time coming for Honda,” said the editor of the Green Car Journal, Rob Cogan.

Hitting 38 miles per gallon in highway driving, Honda expanded the distribution of the 2012 Civic Natural Gas to 200 dealers in 36 states.
