Honda officially launched Project Fit back in August and provided performance shops with a 2015 Fit to customize, for a planned unveiling at this year’s SEMA show. The progress of each car was documented virtually with interactive photos, videos and animated GIFs, adding a unique touch to the ambitious project!
Three additional personalized 2015 Honda Fit vehicles on display included a Fit B-spec race car prepped for competition by Honda Performance Development (HPD), Honda’s North American racing company; a Fit loaded with available dealer-installed Honda Genuine Accessories; and an additional Fit personalized by prominent tuner, Bisimoto, on behalf of Norm Reeves Honda in response to fan feedback prompted through the 2015 Fit Performance Project.
“The 2015 Fit is a worthy addition to Honda’s strong heritage of developing tuned sport compact vehicles, and it wears the mantle of “Hottest Sport Compact” well,” said Jeff Conrad, SVP & General Manager of Honda Division, American Honda Motor Co, Inc. “Fun to drive, versatile and a great value, the new Fit does so many things right, and it’s great to see it becoming a popular platform for owner personalization.”

Honda is skipping straight to 2015 with the All-New Honda Fit, described as the “SUV of small cars”! The anticipated Fit debut will happen at the 2014 North American International Auto Show in Detroit on January 13th. The third generation Fit will offer enhanced fuel-efficiency and performance due to the integration of an all-new Earth Dreams Technology powertrain. “The 2015 Fit builds on the current model’s innovative packaging, flexible cargo capability and fun-to-drive character with spirited new styling, an even more spacious and refined interior packed with leading-edge connected car technologies,” Honda said in a statement today.

The Honda 2014 model year brings us new and updated models with an impressive lineup, including some of the best-selling vehicles in the country – the Civic, the Accord and the CR-V.
Changes for the 2014 model year includes the new Accord Hybrid, Accord Plug-in Hybrid, and 2014 Odyssey which features refreshed styling and amenities with the introduction of the first in-vehicle vacuum cleaning system, the HondaVAC™. Meanwhile, you can expect a redesigned the 2015 Honda Fit to hit showroom floors summer of 2014.
Here are some highlights for the 2014 model year lineup:
- – Industry-leading safety ratings, with all current Honda models tested receiving IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK or TOP SAFETY PICK + status.
- – Unmatched standard feature content with 100% of light trucks and 96% of Honda cars sold now equipped with rearview camera and over 95% of all models equipped with standard Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink™ connectivity.
- – Top fuel economy ratings with seven Honda models anticipated to obtain an EPA-estimated highway rating of over 40mpg : Civic HF, Civic Hybrid, Insight, Accord Hybrid, Accord Plug-in Hybrid, Fit EV and FCX Clarity.
We expect the new Accord Hybrid this fall and it will feature:
- – Similar styling to the gasoline powered Accord Sedan.
- – A 141-horsepower Earth Dreams™ Technology 2.0 liter i-VTEC® 4-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine matched to a 124-kilowatt (kW) traction electric motor.
- – Anticipated class-leading EPA fuel economy ratings of 49/45/47 mpg (city/hwy/combined).
The new Accord Plug-in Hybrid is expected to hit showroom floors by January 2014 and features:
- – A 141-horsepower EarthDreams™ Technology 2.0 liter i-VTEC® 4-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine matched to a 124-kilowatt (kW) traction electric motor as part of Honda’s two-motor hybrid system.
- – EPA gasoline fuel economy ratings of 47/46/46 mpg (city/hwy/combined).
- – Battery charging takes approximately three hours using a standard 120-volt household outlet and only 40 minutes using a Level-2 (240-volt) source.
Both the 2014 Civic sedan and coupe will hit sales floors in the fall and we know there will be additional enhancements, but we don’t expect anything significant since it was redesigned for the 2013 model year.
As for the Accord Sedan, Accord Coupe, CR-V, CR-Z, Fit EV, Insight, Crosstour, Pilot, Ridgeline & FCX Clarity 2013 models will carryover for 2014.
However for 2015 you can expect a full redesign of the Honda Fit. The current Fit has seen minor changes for the past several years so a full redesign is highly needed. We can anticipate a completely updated look as well as new standard features and advanced technology.

The Honda Fit was first introduced to Honda’s lineup in 2001. Since then, Honda has sold over 4 million units! Tokyo-based Honda unveiled the revamped Fit this summer with a stretched front grille, tapered headlights and indented doors. Chief engineer Makoto Konishi says, “It’s time for big change. That ‘good thing’ needs to get better.”
Although the Fit is the smallest car in Honda’s global offering, it is Honda’s best-seller in Japan and ranks fourth worldwide after the Civic, CR-V and Accord. Makoto Konishi stated that the next Fit will reach U.S. dealerships Spring of 2014. We do not have details on the U.S. model but here is a bit of what the current design has to offer…
In designing the new Fit, Honda’s exterior design chief Toshinobu Minami stated “The first thing that President Ito ordered us to do was to build a car that’s cool.” “We had to give the new model a significantly new face and stronger road presence while maintaining its dimensions. The face, especially, had to exude NEW. That is why Honda opted for a more solid face with an exciting design.” Besides fuel economy, Ito, 59, is betting that traditional buyers of small cars — singles, young families and retirees — will embrace the new look.
The 2015 Fit will be the first Honda hybrid model to have an i-DCD (a Sport Hybrid Intelligent Dual Clutch Drive) which is a 7-speed dual clutch transmission and a 22-kilowatt electric motor rather than a CVT (continuously variable transmission) coupled to a 4-cylinder 1.5L Atkinson-cycle engine. The dual clutch transmission can completely disengage the gas engine from the electric motor, allowing electric-only drive.
If you’ve never tried the Fit before, now is a good time to test drive the Honda Fit before the redesign hits our showroom floor. We promise that you’ll love this car so you’ll be even more excited for the all new Fit.
