Honda Maintenance Minder System

Know the Honda Maintenance Minder System

On many newer Honda vehicles, there is now the Honda Maintenance Minder System. This allows drivers from Austin and San Marcos to stay on top of repair and service needs by displaying and notifying drivers when certain services are due. At Howdy Honda, we're here to review how the system works and answer your questions about vehicle service at our dealership.

Honda Maintenance Minder Basics

The Honda Maintenance Minder System displays engine oil life on the info display and lets you know when it is time to replace the engine oil. On newer Honda vehicles, this is replacing the maintenance schedule in your owner's manual. It will show engine oil life as a percentage, which goes down as you drive more miles. It is at 100% with fresh oil, and 0% when the oil life is done.

Additionally, there are maintenance symbols. When you get an 'A' that means the engine oil should be replaced. A 'B' means that the engine oil plus the filter should be replaced. There are also other codes that are done by number which includes:

  • 1 - Rotate tires and get the right tire pressure
  • 2- Replace the air cleaner element, plus inspect the drive belt and replace dust and pollen filter
  • 3 - Replace transmission and transfer fluid
  • 4 - Replace spark plugs, timing belt, and inspect the water pump and valve clearance
  • 5 - Replace engine coolant
  • 6 - Replace rear differential fluid

If you see any of these indicators, which can also come as combinations, schedule an appointment with us. We'll make sure to check the status and get you the right repairs, as these reminders are a good way to ensure that your Honda service is always on schedule and you see the benefits of driving a Honda long-term. That's because the right care at the right intervals leads to a longer-lasting, more efficient drive.

What does the A1 and/or A2 code mean on my Honda?

Since the Maintenance Minder System will combine different codes for maintenance, you might see A1 or A2 on your display. A1 means replace your engine oil, and since you're close to having to rotate your tires (1), do that as well. A2 also means replacing engine oil, but then checking your air filters (2). This is done to make your service visits efficient, so you're getting needed services done at close intervals, and not having to schedule multiple visits to us.

These indicators will also change based on your driving habits, be it warmer weather, or different conditions, but all told if you're on top of your maintenance the Maintenance Minder System will make sure you're getting service when it is needed by realizing your driving habits and the usage of your vehicle to make these determinations.
